The business was originally started by my father, Joseph Murray, with his first shop in Walthamstow, London in 1946.He then later opened his shop in Tooting, South London, in 1950.
History of the Business
He trained many watchmakers during his life time, one of whom was my husband, Alan Middleton, who started training in 1958 and became fully qualified in 1965. Alan continued to work alongside my father for 19 years, at the same time training other apprentices and contributing to their qualifications.
It was therefore natural that, when Joseph Murray sadly died in 1977,the business continued with me, his daughter Patricia, who had always been involved in the running of the business.This was alongside Alan Middleton, who during Joseph's long spells of illness had run the shop and workshop, for the family.
Our first shop named Middletons opened in 1979 and was also in Tooting. In 1982 we moved the business out to Walton on the Hill in Surrey to be nearer where we lived.
The year of 1992 saw us move the business and our home to this lovely village in Somerset where we, along with our now much extended family, have continued to live and work for the last 31years, most happily.
